Performance measurement is done using PERFMON.EXE - standard Windows utility which is hosted in the Management Console.
- Start Perfmon - Open “Performance Logs and Alerts → Counter Logs” - You should see “Basic Overview” and it should be Green. - If not, then right click “Counter Logs” and selects “New Log Settings From” and select file “Basic Overview.htm”. (this file is located in E:\PerfMon on all Windows servers.
The “Basic Overview” must be started after machine reboot manually. It should be setup to create one log per one day (usually does not break on midnight, but we can live with this).
Information is gathered for selected counters only and in 30 seconds intervals.
Logs are created in E:\PerfMon\Logs .
Click on E:\PerfMon\perfmon_day_template.msc . This opens the performance monitoring with most important counters. By default this displays active values in pace of 1 second. Click on cylinder symbol (or press Ctrl+L) and select any day from logs directory. You may adjust the time rage that you want to analyze.
